Location-Aware Handover.
Carrier agnostic multi-network wireless solutions must determine when to route sessions between WiFi and cellular (and vice versa). Solutions today fall into two categories:
- User driven, manual push button "transfers" between WiFi and cellular networks
- Automatic handover between WiFi and cellular networks
Enterprises have been clear that manual handover (e.g. push button "transfers") fails to address their requirements. Enterprise users require a transparent experience, and cannot be bothered to stop a call midstream to transfer it to cellular or WiFi.
Existing automatic handover solutions attempt to address this key enterprise requirement, but fall short due to the simplistic techniques that often produce an undesirable user experience. Typical issues include long handover delays (> 1 second) and erratic, unreliable performance.
The RoamAnywhere Mobility Router adds the element of location awareness to solve the challenging problem of routing between multiple networks. Location awareness ensures that calls inside the building stay on WiFi (where appropriate), and route to cellular when the user moves outside, and vice versa. Location awareness provides a simple means for the administrator to ensure proper routing between WiFi and cellular regardless of the make, model or type of dual mode phone, and a provides a seamless, transparent experience for the user.
